Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When her father passed away in the role of a carnival barker when Ruth was just an infant She was required to support the family working both as a cleaner and a server. Ruth attended school, and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. Following only two school years, Ruth left to pursue an acting profession. It was not without difficulties. When she was offered a job as a model in New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she found it difficult to find jobs on stage. Her next job was as an "hat check" lady at a club until she decided to quit and returned to Boston. She made ends meet by working as an usher throughout the day, and working at night with the New England Repertory Company, her first regular acting gig. Drama studies led her to earn her degree from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
